Dr. Kate Hansen, D.C.

Dr. Kate Hansen is a 2004 honor graduate of Northwestern College of Chiropractic, located in the Twin Cities. Prior to enrolling in chiropractic college, she attended Wartburg College, where she earned a Bachelor's degree and graduated with honors in Biology.

Interested in whole body health and wellness, Dr. Hansen continued her professional education in acupuncture. She has passed the national board exam for acupuncture and holds acupuncture certification in Minnesota, South Dakota, and Nebraska.

Dr. Hansen has practiced chiropractic and acupuncture for the past eight years. She began in St. Paul, Minnesota as an associate doctor of chiropractic and then spent almost four years as the co-owner of The Chiropractors at Four Hills in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She has most recently relocated to Omaha with her husband and two children and is excited to be leading the Essentials team as owner of Essentials Family Chiropractic since January 2010.

Her passion is empowering and educating patients (especially pregnant women) how to take their health into their own hands through natural healing of the mind, body, and spirit. Dr. Hansen feels so fortunate to have two beautiful children, a daughter named Hadley and a son named Duncan. Because both of her empowering pregnancy and natural childbirth experiences, Dr. Hansen is especially interested in helping women have happy, healthy, and pain-free pregnancies.





Dr. Katie Dischler, D.C. M.S.

Formerly Dr. Katie Krohn, Dr. Katie Dischler attended Logan College of Chiropractic, where she became National Board certified in Acupuncture. She took many post graduate courses including Auriculotherapy and Craniopathy, is a certified Loomis Institute Internal Health Specialist, is a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP) and is certified in Applied Kinesiology.

She holds a Master's degree in Sports Science and Rehabilitation in which she completed her internship with the University of Nebraska Omaha Athletic Department. Prior to her time at Logan College, she played Varsity volleyball all four years of undergrad at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and graduated with honors with a Bachelor's in Applied Health Sciences and a certificate in Fitness Management. In addition to these, she also has a Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences from Logan College of Chiropractic.

When not treating patients, she enjoys spending time with her husband and puppy, and playing all sports including swimming, golf, softball, and doing kickboxing. However, she continues to have a passion for volleyball on the court as well as the sand.

She is excited about being part of the Essentials family and looks forward to helping people feel better, encouraging the production of good biomechanics in infants and children, and increasing the ability of athletes to perform at a higher level.

Dr. April Johnston is a 2007 graduate of Northwestern College of Chiropractic, located in the Twin Cities. Prior to attending chiropractic college, she was a Regents Scholar and Honors student at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.

Following graduation, Dr. Johnston practiced in Minnesota and Iowa. She moved back to Nebraska in 2012 and joined the Essentials Family Chiropractic team in November 2012 where she now practices chiropractic care and acupuncture. She is excited to be back in Nebraska and to be helping people feel better and live healthier lives.

Dr. Johnston married her husband Jake in 2004. She is the proud mother of two beautiful twin girls named Alexis and Ellyana, and the proud stepmom of son Jayden. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and her children doing a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, gardening, and camping.

She is excited about the opportunity to work with a number of pregnant women and children and loves being able to share experiences with more natural minded parents. Her passion is helping families live a more natural and holistic lifestyle.




Dr. Melisa Brown, D.C.

Dr. Brown is a 2004 graduate of Northwestern College of Chiropractic, where she received her Doctorate of Chiropractic and a Bachelors of Science degree in Human Biology.

Believing in a holistic approach to health and wellness, Dr. Brown continued her professional education to earn a certification in acupuncture and Graston Instrument Soft Tissue Manipulation. She has been studying aromatherapy since 2000 and is proficient in the application of therapeutic grade essential oils to enhance the body’s innate healing power.

Dr. Brown spent her career practicing in Minnesota. She joined the Essentials team in January 2014 and is proud to provide natural health services to Omaha area families. Dr. Brown holds licensure in Chiropractic and acupuncture certification in Minnesota and Nebraska.

When not treating patients, Dr. Brown enjoys spending time with her husband and kitty, Florence. She stays active by practicing yoga, running, hiking, and camping.

Dr. Brown teaches classes on natural health and essential oil therapy in Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska. It is her mission to educate and empower patients to Live Healthy & Live Happy through chiropractic, acupuncture, nutritional counseling, therapeutic grade essentials oils, and other holistic modalities.






Dr. Connealy Cunnington, D.C.DSC00811

Dr. Cunnington graduated from the University of Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, OR in 2011 as valedictorian of her class. Previously she attended Santa Clara University where she rowed on the NCAA varsity crew team, and then went on to complete her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Creighton University in 2003.

She began practicing chiropractic in Oregon at a family clinic specializing in prenatal and pediatric care, then went on to practice in Texas with a focus on assessing, treating and rehabilitating athletes. She was also a treating provider at the Central East Regional CrossFit Qualifiers. Dr. Cunnington was thrilled to become a member of the Essentials Chiropractic family in 2014 after relocating home to Omaha with her husband Jeff and daughter Sibyl.

In addition to treating spinal conditions, Dr. Cunnington is skilled in extremity adjusting, soft tissue treatment, as well as Kinesio taping applications. Her passion lies in treating the whole person, from babies and mothers, to athletes and beyond. This holistic approach involves helping patients attain and maintain a healthy lifestyle through chiropractic, nutrition, and rehabilitation exercises.

Outside of patient care, Dr. Cunnington enjoys experimenting with new recipes, reading, creating art with her daughter, taking family walks, riding horses, practicing yoga and enjoying the great outdoors.


Dr. Amber Chohon, D.C

Dr. Amber Chohon graduated valedictorian from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in February of 2012. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska Lincoln and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences with a minor in Biochemistry. She was born and raised in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Dr. Amber has completed over 200 hours of post-doctorate education in pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care. She received her certification in pediatric proficiency, CACCP (Certification from the Academy of Family Practice and Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics), in March of 2013 through the International Chiropractic Pediatrics Association (ICPA). She is also certified in Webster Technique, which is used in caring for pregnant women.

Dr. Amber became interested in biology and how the human body works in high school. She always knew she wanted to be in a profession where she could help people live happier, healthier lives. When she talked to a friend that was planning on attending chiropractic school, it called to her. She realized that with an adjustment, she could actually do something natural to help people! Although she loves caring for kids and pregnant moms, she is happy to work with people at all stages of life. She strives to give her patients the best care possible and continues to further her education in order to do that.

Her husband, Nathan, is an avid whitetail deer hunter. They married in June of 2007. They welcomed their beautiful daughter, Kayda, in May of 2014 with an amazing home birth. She joined the Essentials team in August of 2015. Dr. Amber enjoys cooking, taking care of her dog, Paysley, and spending time with family and friends. She is an advocate of breastfeeding, natural pregnancy, informed birth, babywearing, cloth diapers, and healing naturally! She looks forward to meeting you on your journey to a healthier you.


Dr. Jessica Johnson Zortman, D.C

Dr. Jessica Johnson Zortman was born and raised in in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa and attended Briar Cliff University for her bachelor’s degree in Biology. She moved to Bloomington, Minnesota and attended Northwestern College of Chiropractic and graduate in 2007. In March 2008, she married her high school sweetheart on their tenth anniversary.

While her husband’s military service may have brought her to Omaha, she is very excited to be a part of this wonderful city. She has been practicing in Omaha since moving here during her last term of chiropractic school and happily joined the Essential’s Team in May of 2015.

She enjoys the amazing potential that chiropractic care offers people for healing and living a healthier life and is thankful that she can assist her patients in that process.

In her spare time, she spends time with her family, her bulldog, and her friends. She also enjoys reading, gardening, and doing home projects.


Dr. Hannah Beran, D.C

Dr. Hannah Beran graduated summa cum laude and valedictorian from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Overland Park, Kansas in April 2016. She grew up in Grand Island, Nebraska and completed her undergraduate studies at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska. She graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with minors in Biology and Spanish.

Dr. Beran moved to Omaha, Nebraska and joined the Essentials team immediately following graduation in May 2016. She is honored to serve the families of this community and wants to empower them to take control of their health. She loves working with children and pregnant moms and is happy to see patients at all stages of life.

Dr. Beran is Webster Technique Certified through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). She is trained in kinesiology taping and a number of soft tissue techniques. She loves utilizing a holistic approach to healthcare in order to help her patients achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Dr. Beran recently went on a chiropractic mission trip to Haiti and Dominican Republic and provided free chiropractic care to the poorest areas of these countries. This life changing experience helped her grow as a person and as a healthcare professional.

In her spare time, Dr. Beran enjoys spending time with her family and friends, attending concerts and sporting events, golfing, and reading. She is excited to be back in Nebraska and a part of the Essentials family. She looks forward to helping her patients feel better and live happier, healthier lives!
